The London based architecture and design studio leit-werk, founded in 1999, offers a new form of design practice where architects, designers and urban planners work together in a transdisciplinary organisation. As a result, leit-werk has become an integral part of an established network of collaborators, consultants and experts from related fields.
We differentiate ourselves from others through our conceptual, process-orientated approach as well as our understanding of the creative design process in all its complexity. We constantly analyse and explore the relationship between spatial, economic, cultural and social parameters and develop innovative schemes, which range from urban and architectural planning to interior and surface design. As a consequence, our ideas and solutions go beyond the general field of architecture and design.
One of leit-werk’s particular fields of interest are global environments like airports as urban and cultural phenomena. We are aiming to create long-term strategies to overcome the separation of hitherto isolated functions, redefining the airport as part of a wider infrastructure. leit-werk often operates within larger consortia and regularly functions as a think tank for various organisations.
Along with our working methods, we question conventional forms of communication by developing new ways to illustrate and represent most effectively the content of our concepts and proposals.
The scope of our work includes urban masterplanning, building design, airport masterplanning and terminal design as well as other large, medium and small-scale projects often integrated in complex project environments. We have extensive experience in working with local partners coming from various cultural backgrounds. Our cooperation with WSP throughout recent years has strengthened ties between our architecture design and the different engineering disciplines provided by WSP.
